Huddersfield Town’s B Team full-back played the full 90 minutes this afternoon and wore the captain’s armband for the final 30 minutes of the game.

Brodie Spencer played the full 90 minutes of this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa after not playing in the Central League game against Bolton Wanderers earlier this week, whilst wearing the captain’s armband for the final 30 minutes of the game.

Discussing the game and the experience, the 18-year-old full back said:

“I think these games are very important for everyone in the team.

“Obviously, we had a very good first half but when you don’t match the standard in the second half, especially against teams like Aston Villa and the bigger teams, you get punished.

“I think it’s a big learning curve for the lads, just to make sure we keep our standards up and keep the consistency.”

Spencer then went on to talk about his leadership role within the group, something he has done for the B Team on many occasions – including the final 30 minutes of today’s game.

“I always try to be a leader in the group. As one of the more experienced lads in the group, I feel like it’s my responsibility to drive the team, especially the younger lads that come in and I try to set the standards.

“So, when stuff doesn’t go our way like today, I take a bit of personal responsibility in that as being one of the leaders in the group.

“I think it’s important now that we learn from this and kick-on to the next game.”

Finally, Brodie touched on his individual goals for the rest of the season as well as the goals for the B Team.

“Personally, my aim for the rest of the season is to keep getting minutes, keep building and having good performances.

“For the team, we just want to get as many positive results as we can between now and the end of the season.”
