Huddersfield Town’s B Team midfielder scored the first goal for Town yesterday afternoon in our Central League victory over Accrington Stanley away from home.

Tom Iorpenda has become a regular starter in the B Team this season and scored the opening goal in yesterday afternoon’s Central League game at Accrington Stanley.

Discussing his step up to the B Team, the 17-year-old said:

“Regularly playing with the B Team has been harder but playing with older and more experienced players means that I am learning a lot off of them.

“Then, obviously, the intensity of the matches and playing against older players makes it harder but it’s just all part of the learning curve.”

Iorpenda then went on to talk about scoring the first goal of the game yesterday, whilst also talking about the position he played and the position he wants to play going forwards.

“Scoring felt good yesterday, I don’t score to often but hopefully that is something I can add to my game – I’m going to try and get more in the last few months of the season.

“I scored one minute and then the next I was defending our box, so I was playing more of a central defender role yesterday, but I ended up stepping into midfield a lot, which is good because I’m showing my versatility.

“A box-to-box midfielder is hopefully where I end up so I can push forwards and then defend when I’m needed to.”

The youngster finally touched on the game as a whole after the team bounced back from their defeat against Aston Villa last week.

“Yesterday was a good reaction from the disappointing defeat to Aton Villa last week so it was a great reaction.

“Accrington Stanley are a good side, but I think we played well through the whole game, we didn’t stop.

“We were aggressive and played with great with intensity - it paid off in the end.”
