Inclusion Room made big impact in debut season
- Terriers Together Inclusion Room sponsored by Thornhill Dental
- 115 people have benefitted from the facilities within nine months
- Comments from families who have used the space
During its debut season, the Terriers Together Inclusion Room, sponsored by Thornhill Dental, has improved accessibility at the John Smith’s Stadium.
During the nine months the room has been open and in use, 115 people have benefited from the facilities provided and have been able to watch live football in a comfortable environment.
People with a range of access needs have used the space, including supporters with life limiting conditions and those on the Autistic spectrum as well as various community groups and local schools.
Town has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Thornhill Dental and this season they have been a crucial part of our equality, diversity and inclusion work, as an inaugural Terriers Together Patron and sponsor of the Inclusion Room.
A family who attended a game commented:
“Thank you so much for the opportunity to use the Inclusion Room.
“Our son with Autism would not normally cope with the noise or other stimuli that cause anxiety and distress, but the room enabled us to watch the game while he sat inside on the beanbags with the low lights. He could also watch the game through the window without the noise.”
Another family added:
“My daughter felt so at ease. She could be herself and do whatever made her feel comfortable whether that be sitting and watching the game or playing with the sensory lights, shapes, sounds etc. It is fantastic that people with additional needs who may normally feel apprehensive to attend a game, or not be able to attend at all, can watch their team live and in the comfort of a space that accommodates their individual needs.”
Graeme Tattersfield, Practice Principal at Thornhill Dental, said:
“Thornhill Dental are extremely proud to be the inaugural Patrons of Terriers Together and to sponsor the Terriers Together Inclusion Room, which makes going to watch Huddersfield Town accessible to people who may have medical or other additional needs.
“At ‘Team TD’ we love seeing people’s happy, smiling faces and we certainly see many of those from guests in the Inclusion Room.”
Bookings for the Inclusion Room will be managed on a match-by-match basis and we recommend supporters send their expressions of interest at least three weeks before the match they would like to attend.
Fixtures for 2023/24 will be released on Thursday 22 June 2023, and enquiries about bookings can be sent to our Disability Liaison Officer Michelle McQueen – email@example.com.
