Experienced staff members arrive at Huddersfield Town
- Two new members of staff join the First Team setup
- Carl Serrant joins as First Team Coach
- Ian Bennett returns to the club as Goalkeeping Coach
Manager Neil Warnock has bolstered his First Team coaching staff through two new appointments in Carl Serrant and Ian Bennett.
Serrant, 47, joins the club as our new First Team Coach, whilst Bennett – no stranger to the club through his previous playing and coaching spells with us – returns as Goalkeeping Coach.
Carl, who originally hails from Bradford, played over 100 EFL games for the likes of Oldham Athletic, Newcastle United and Bury before turning his hand to coaching. He has worked under Neil Warnock on several previous occasions; at Crystal Palace from 2007, at QPR from 2010 for six years and again at Cardiff City from 2017, where he worked until February 2022.
He has also worked as the Sports Science lead at Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United, and most recently had a nine-month spell as Assistant Manager at Newport County.
Bennett, now 51, arrives back at Town after departing his role as Goalkeeping Coach at Doncaster Rovers a few weeks ago.
His long career as a goalkeeper ended at Town between 2010 and 2014, with his 74 appearances in our goal taking him to nearly 450 across his career. In particular, he played an important role in the 2011/12 promotion-winning season in League One, stepping in to play in both legs of the important semi-final win over MK Dons.
After becoming our Academy Goalkeeping Coach in 2014, he progressed to join the coaching team at Nottingham Forest before joining Neil Warnock as Goalkeeping Coach at Middlesbrough in 2020, having played for our manager at Sheffield United in 2004/05.
Manager Neil Warnock explained:
“Now that I’ve committed myself to the position full-time, I thought it was important to get another couple of members of staff on board that know me inside out, know what I want and know how to make the most and get the most from my way of working.
“That said, I’m delighted to bring both Ian Bennett and Carl Serrant to the Club. I’ve worked with both of them previously and I’m sure they’ll enjoy every minute of the challenge ahead.”
