We will make the long trip to newly promoted Plymouth Argyle to begin our 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season!
In what will be a very special fixture for Town Manager Neil Warnock, who counts the Pilgrims as his ‘home’ club as the one nearest his home in the south west, we open our season against Plymouth at their Home Park ground in a game scheduled for Saturday 5 August 2023.
As well as being the club that is nearest to him, Warnock has managerial history with Plymouth. Having guided Town to promotion to the division now known as the Sky Bet Championship via a famous win in the 1995 Play-Offs, he made a shock move to Plymouth that summer and, less surprisingly, he led them to victory in the Division Three Play-Offs!
It will be the first league meeting between Town and Plymouth since January 2011, when we won an action-packed game 3-2 and the Janners finished with nine men! Having fallen 2-1 behind, goals from Jordan Rhodes and Peter Clarke secured a 3-2 win.
Following a midweek Carabao Cup game in the week commencing 7 August – the Round One draw is at 2.30pm this afternoon – our first home league fixture sees us host recently relegated Leicester City at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday 12 August 2023.

The season-ending Sky Bet EFL Play-Offs will once again be staged at Wembley Stadium, this time across two weekends in May 2024. The Championship Final will take centre stage on Sunday 26 May.
