Huddersfield Town midfielder called-up by Mali Under-23 squad

- Brahima Diarra receives international call-up
- Young Terrier to join Mali U23 national side
- Three key games in the U23 AFCON for the young Mali squad

With the Under-23 African Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco in 2023, Brahima Diarra has received his second international call-up to the Mali Under-23 side.

Brahima Diarra made his debut for the Mali Under-23 squad after coming off the bench against Senagal in March 2023 in their AFCON qualifying Play-Offs.

After qualifying for the U23 African Cup of Nations, the tournament will take place between 24 June and 8 July 2023 and will be hosted by Morocco with Mali set to play three key games in the group stage as they aim to qualify for the knockout stages.

The finalists and third placed teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympic men’s football tournament in Paris, whilst the fourth placed team will the AFC-CAF play-off to decide the final slot at the Olympics.

Since Diarra’s break-through season with Town’s First Team, the 19-year-old will be hoping to make an impact in the young Mali squad during this time.

Key dates for Brahima and the Mali squad:

25 June 2023, 9pm (BST) – Mali U23 vs Cameroon U23

28 June 2023, 6pm (BST) – Egypt U23 vs Mali U23

1 July 2023, 9pm (BST) – Niger U23 vs Mali U23
