Our pre-season tour of Cornwall and Devon continued on Wednesday morning as the players took to the training pitch ahead of our game at Tavistock – and you can see all the preparations with Inside Training on HTTV!

Neil Warnock oversaw the session and spoke about the merits of this week’s work ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship campaign.

“It’s gone well. The lads have come back in good shape. We had a tough week last week – I’ve always done that – and then the three games down here this week are not about the result. We’ve trained hard every day, even when we’re playing games, and its about getting minutes in everybody’s lockers.

“Duchy College is a great facility and I just like getting everyone together. It allows the lads to gel, not just on the training ground but around the hotel and facilities where we’re staying. It’s just great for bonding really.”

“We had real team spirit last year and played some good football at times, but I want us to be a little more on the front foot this year, to be honest. That comes with confidence.

Danny Ward wasn’t involved in Monday’s 9-0 win over Bodmin Town after suffering a little problem, but he was back on the training pitch today.

Yuta Nakayama is also back on the training pitch in Cornwall following his long-term Achilles injury, as Neil explained:

“Yuta has come down with us and has been involved in all the contact sessions in training. It’s a case of ‘mind over matter’ now as he gets used to it again.”

Neil also confirmed that a few other players left back in Huddersfield have been suffering ‘little niggles’, such as Tom Lees (calf) and Jordan Rhodes.

Neil continued: “Tom should be alright. He’s stayed at the training ground as there’s a piece of machinery he’s using that takes his weight, the AlterG, otherwise I would have brought him down here. The scans were good, so it’s just a case of building him up.

“Jordan had a little bit of a problem too, so we want to get that out of the way.”
