NORTH HUDDERSFIELD TRUST SCHOOL HELP LAUNCH THIRD KIT!

25 July 2023

Pupils from local North Huddersfield Trust School feature in 2023/24 third kit launch

- North Huddersfield Trust School students feature in the launch
- Pupils selected participated in Huddersfield Town Foundation music project

In a collaboration with our Huddersfield Town Foundation, we were delighted to prominently feature students from North Huddersfield Trust School in our 2023/24 third kit launch today!

Pupils who have been part of the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s music project at the North Huddersfield Trust School earned the opportunity to feature in the launch of our third kit, taking part in the photoshoot and providing the soundtrack to our launch.

As part of the youth programmes they deliver within the community, the Club’s official charity has explored new ways of hearing from the young people they work with. In a pilot mini-project within the Premier League Kicks Programme, the Town Foundation and North Huddersfield Trust School worked together with local music artist Joel Simmy to deliver a series of spoken word, poetry, and lyric-writing workshops designed to help students find new ways of expressing their emotions.

For six weeks, the Foundation and Simmy worked with students to upskill them with tools to effectively capture their views on different subjects close to them, touching on incidents from their local area, school and their lives at home to collaborate on a piece that reinforces positivity and the opportunities available through hard work.

The workshops culminated in a session at Vibrations Recording Studio in Crosland Moor to record the track professionally, with each young person involved performing a verse of their own creation to the final piece. Simmy was a key figure in teaching the students rhythming techniques and adapting those to a beat, which was made by international music producer Josh Harris Beats.

The project has helped the students to realise their potential by showing them what is achievable through belief, determination, and endeavour. To celebrate this achievement, the impactful song they created is what you hear soundtracking the launch of our brand-new third kit!

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with First Team players Michał Helik, Sorba Thomas and Jaheim Headley alongside Huddersfield Town Women stars Ria Montgomery and Beth Stanfield, some of the pupils involved in the workshops and final track also feature in our 2023/24 third kit photoshoot.

Huddersfield Town Foundation’s Premier League Kicks Coordinator Ash Hinds has delivered the project throughout and she was overwhelmed with its outcome, commenting:

“I think we massively achieved everything we aimed for.

“It was about digging deep and giving the kids that space to understand what they wanted to rap or sing about to help them to keep on track.

“It has been something that we thought we could only dream about, and we had one of the lads say, ‘No one ever thinks about me because I am a naughty kid’, so now that we can give them another opportunity where we can get them in the brand new third kit and have their photo taken is overwhelming.”

Joel Simmy has been instrumental in bringing all the musical elements together for the project, adding:

“I don’t think anyone thought that this project would expand as far as this where the Club wants to support the music project and the local area.

“It is a big confidence booster for this community and for them to see that the environment that they grow up in is supporting them to grow up and be better – this is what we wanted the workshop to be about in giving them a judgement-free zone where they can be themselves.”
