Saturday 29 July 2023 marked a significant landmark in the career of Club Captain Jonathan Hogg’s career, with the midfielder bringing up a decade of service as a Terrier!

Signing for the Club from Watford on 29 July 2013 for an undisclosed fee, the then 24 year old midfielder had played over 100 games in the top two flights of English football at that stage of his career, with 41 of those appearances coming for the Hornets the campaign before signing for Town as they reached the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final.

His career began with hometown side Middlesbrough, before he moved to the Premier League with Aston Villa as a teenager. His senior debut came on loan for Darlington in the 2009/10 season, before making his first Villa appearance in August 2010 in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna.

He soon made his Premier League debut against Manchester United and signed a new contract in the Midlands, but Watford came calling in the summer of 2011 following a loan spell with Portsmouth.

Upon signing for Town, the man now affectionately known as the General said:

“Huddersfield is the perfect fit for me and I am looking forward to showing the fans what I am all about.

“I feel Huddersfield is an excellent place to develop my career and I am excited by what is in store; after looking around the training ground you can see that the Club has real potential.

“I will work very hard for the Club and I am very much a team player,” he said. “I like to put myself about, win the ball and keep things simple when I have it.”

Over the course of the past decade, Hoggy has made 337 Club appearances, scoring five times in the process whilst contributing eight assists. 254 of those appearances have come in the Sky Bet Championship, whist 59 arrived during our run in the Premier League, the promotion to which Hogg played a huge role.

The captain has played 18 times across domestic cup competitions in blue and white, also making six appearances for the Club in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs, including two Play-Off Finals – back in 2017 for our unforgettable victory over Reading, and more recently as captain in 2022 as we missed out narrowly at Wembley.

Undeniably a Huddersfield Town legend, Hogg currently sits 14th in our all-time appearances list, and is by far the longest serving member of our First Team group.
