Midfielder completes permanent move away from Town

Duane Holmes has today completed a permanent transfer to fellow Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End.

This ends the 28-year-old midfielder’s second spell at Huddersfield Town.

Having joined the club’s Academy at under-9 level from junior football in Wakefield, he progressed through the age groups to make his professional debut in late 2013. That was one of 26 senior appearances in Town colours before he decided to leave in search of regular football, which he found at Scunthorpe United for two seasons.

Duane’s form with the Iron led to a move to Derby County in 2018 before his return to Town in the January 2021 window.

His contract was due to expire in the summer of 2024, although the club held the option of a further year’s extension. He leaves having scored 11 goals in 119 competitive games for Town.

The terms of his transfer to Preston North End will remain undisclosed.

Manager Neil Warnock explained:

“We all wish Duane the best of luck at his new club.

“He’s been very unlucky with injuries since I came back to Huddersfield, so I’ve not been able to work with him that much. We have good competition for places in that area of the pitch and his departure gives us more flexibility in the market this summer, too.

"Duane is good lad and this move suits him geographically, as it’s still close to where he lives. I wish him well.”

Everyone at Huddersfield Town thanks Duane for his efforts over two spells at the Club, and wishes him all the best for the future.
