TOWN WOMEN TRAVEL TO BIRMINGHAM CITY ON SUNDAY

3 January 2023

HTAFC Women face Birmingham City in the third round of the Vitality FA Women’s Cup

- Town Women travel to Birmingham City Women
- Vitality Women's FA Cup run continues
- Game gets underway at 1pm

Huddersfield Town Women will be aiming to continue their fine form in cup competitions when they visit Birmingham City this Sunday 8 December for a 1pm kick-off in the Vitality FA Women’s Cup.

After another comfortable win in the Vitality Womens FA Cup against Durham Cestria and a league cup win at Middlesbrough before Christmas has secured Town Women a quarter-final spot in that tournament, Town Women travel to Birmingham City in the third round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup.

Town Women started quickly against Middlesbrough, with Laura Elford delivering to Laura Hulme whose effort was saved. However, Katie Anderson was on hand to fire home the rebound. It wasn't long before the Women Terriers were two up, as Elford broke free and went one on one with the keeper, before finding the back of the net. Just before half time, Elford poked home her second from three yards

After the break things got even better as Elford drew a foul and Britt Sanderson looped the ball over the wall and into the back of the net. Anderson spread the play from the middle to Yasmin Mason. The pinpoint cross found Hulme at the far post, and Town Women had more or less put the game beyond doubt. Hulme got her second in worsening weather conditions.

Middlesbrough managed a late consolation goal, but it was too little too late as Town Women booked their spot against Wolves in the quarter final.

The Vitality FA Cup match against Birmingham City will be no easy game. The hosts are fifth in the Women’s Super League Championship, five points from the top spot.

Birmingham City join the Vitality FA Cup at this stage but defeated rivals Blackburn Rovers last weekend 2-0. With Championship players this should be an exciting match. Last season the Women Terriers made the fourth round, before a defeat by Super League side Everton.

Town Women sit fourth in the Northern Premier Division, seven points from top spot with a game in hand.

Town Women have only lost two games in the league so far this season and have won five. Only Wolves, who top the division, and AFC Fylde have managed to defeat Town Women this season.

Town Women will want to replicate at least last season’s run in the same competition. The Women Terriers progressed through to the fourth round before facing Everton Women at home. The Women’s Super League side were tested by Town Women, despite the 4-0 loss.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Laura Elford has been scoring for fun lately and will certainly want to continue in that vein. Birmingham City will aim to stop the forward, but if Elford can get some great passes in the right places, there is no reason for her to not hit the back of the net
