Town Women continued their defence of the County Cup on Sunday as they overcame a resilient Dronfield side to book a place in the quarter finals, putting their FA Cup exit behind them.

They’d do just that after five minutes. Laura Hulme with the ball in from the right-hand side fell to the head of Alice Linsell who got the smallest of touches to take it past the 'keeper.

Town would go close again just after the 20 minute mark as Yasmin Mason broke through releasing a shot that was saved well by the goalkeeper.

Dronfield failed to deal with the resulting corner kick. The ball fell to Kate Mallin who played it out tom Hannah Langford whose strike found its way past the 'keeper for her first goal in a Town shirt.

Mia Parry then got in on the action, her run took her through the heart of the Dronfield defence as she struck Town’s third.

Mason would then get her goal with just five minutes left of the first half - another impressive run provided her some space to let off a strike that struck the woodwork on its way into the back of the net.

Katie Anderson would add herself onto the scoresheet after 65 minutes as she completed a well worked team move to make it 5-0.

Mallin would then pick up her second assist of the game, a long ball from Georgia Marshall fell to Mallin who squared it to Britt Sanderson who put the ball in the back of an empty net.

Sanderson would then turn provider, this time she played the ball to Mallin on the edge of the box who struck it home despite a strong hand from the visitor’s goalkeeper.

Laura Hulme would make it eight for Town with 10 minutes to go. Mason drove down the right-hand side before whipping a cross in to Hulme to score her first of the afternoon.

Just a minute later Kiera Heslam would get the ninth and final goal of the afternoon another long ball was left by Mallin for Heslam who struck it past the 'keeper.

Town progress to the quarter finals of the County Cup as their impressive form in cup competitions this season continues with a League Cup quarter-final against Wolves to come in the next couple of weeks.

Next up, Huddersfield Town Women are back on the road. After a successful start to the defence of their title they travel to Handsworth Ladies First.

The 2021/2022 champions have made an excellent start in the competition, with a convincing win against Penistone Church Ladies 1st Team in the first round was followed by a home win against Sheffield United Community Foundation.

Having won the County Cup three of the last four seasons, Huddersfield Town Women hope to continue their success in this competition.
