Huddersfield Town Ladies faced league defeat at the weekend

- Huddersfield Town Women 0-3 Nottingham Forest
- Town Women defeated by league leaders
- Glen Preston’s side next face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the League Cup

Huddersfield Town Women faced defeat against league leaders Nottingham Forest on Sunday, despite looking to get back into the title race.

On a pitch that resembled Blackpool beach in places Town women’s promotion hopes were dealt a major blow.

In a rather cagey opening five minutes the game was blown wide open as Marshall gave away a penalty much to the amazement of most of those inside the Stafflex Arena. It was Steggles who stepped up and buried it into the bottom corner to send the league leaders into the lead.

Town had a chance minutes later to level the score, as a quick counter-attack wasn’t dealt with by the visitors, the ball fell to Stanfield who struck her shot over the bar.

Forest caused issues from set pieces all afternoon, most notably after 20 minutes when a short corner routine was whipped in but dealt with well by Housley.

The visitors doubled their lead six minutes later after a mix up in the box by the Town defence leading to an own goal.

The second half started with Town on the front foot, a driving run forward from Fletcher allowed her space and time to cross a ball in, which just evaded the path of Sanderson.

Two minutes later, Forest all but secured the three points as Greengrass struck a volley into the back of the net.

The biggest talking point of the game came with 15 minutes left on the clock, as Joyce took down Domingo for the visitors, resulting in a red card and leaving Town with 10 players for 15 minutes.

Megeary would be called into action almost instantly as she tipped a free kick onto the cross bar and saved the rebound well.

Town return to Cup action next weekend as they visit New Bucks Head the home of Wolves in the League Cup quarter finals.
