- Huddersfield Town B 4-1 Luton Town
- All goals scored in the second half
- Ollie Turton played first 45 minutes since injury
Huddersfield Town’s B Team were victorious on Tuesday afternoon as they beat Luton Town 4-1 in a friendly at Millers Oils High Performance Complex.
Ollie Turton was back on the pitch following his recent ankle injury. Named in the starting line-up, Turton played the first 45 minutes as he continues to rebuild his match fitness.
Alongside playing in the first half of this B Team game, the right-back featured on the bench for the First Team at the weekend against Coventry City ready to come on if he was needed – but playing in this friendly today meant that he could rebuild his fitness and take an important step in fully returning to the First Team and the Sky Bet Championship.
Four second half goals secured the win for our youngsters, as Cian Philpott, Brahima Diarra, Tom Iorpenda and Kyle Hudlin find the back of the net within 23 minutes of each other.
With only Brodie Spencer, Diarra, Iorpenda and Jacob Chapman playing the full 90 minutes, the game was a tale of two halves.
The first half saw the likes of Turton, Tyreece Simpson, Rarmani Edmonds-Greeen and Kian Harratt not only face the travelling Luton Town side but also battle against the strong winds going against them.
Despite the conditions, our experienced B Team side worked hard in the first half and got the ball forwards as much as possible, which meant that Harratt was able to cut infield from the left and he shot from just outside the area, this shot caught a deflection and went wide.
Simpson had the next chance after a brilliant passing move down the right and a pull-back from Spencer meant that he received the ball in the box and fired it towards the Luton ‘keeper. Jameson Horlick had an incredible reaction, denied the shot and sent it out for a corner, which resulted in the ball headed just wide by Edmonds-Green.
The Young Terriers finished the first half 0-0 and prepared for the second half, where they made seven changes and were no longer competing against the force of the gale.
Our young side started the second half brightly, as Charles Ondo lead the counter-attack and played a one-two with Kyle Hudlin before Ondo sent a low shot towards the bottom corner, which was ultimately pushed away by Horlick.
Philpott scored the opener in the 67th minute as he found the bottom corner brilliantly from 20 yards out, after a fantastic pass was sent by Sonny Whittingham. This was followed by Town’s second goal less than ten minutes later after a swift counter-attack ended with Iorpenda’s pass to Diarra in the area – he Cyruff-turned past the last defender before he fired it home.
Following a mistake in our defence between Spencer and Krasniqi, Luton momentarily got themselves back in the game as Aribim Pepple placed his shot past Chapman and reduced Town’s lead.
However, less than two minutes later Iorpenda sent a corner delivery into the wind, which completely fixed the Luton ‘keeper and came off the post into the back of the net – Town recovered their previous advantage.
The game was buried as Hudlin scored in the 90th minute, with a lovely finish from our 6’9 striker after he stepped inside from the left to get onto the ball left by Diarra and curled it into the top right corner from just outside the area, securing the win after an incredible second half of football from Jon Worthington’s side.
