In an entertaining and open game, Town’s goal came through Martyn Waghorn who was making his home debut and first start for the Club, nodding in from close ranger just before the break.
An important goal that lifted Town before half-time and gave us a platform to try and build from in the second half, the forward said that while he enjoyed his goal, the belief the side showed as a whole was more important.
“It was a huge relief to be honest, I’m delighted to get off the mark.
“In your first start you want to make an impact and help the team, and hopefully that’s a monkey off my back and hopefully more to come.
“It was more important the character we showed from going behind and getting back into the game, so it was pleasing in that aspect.
“I felt like at times we could’ve gone on and got three points.”
Speaking about the group and the important matches to come, Waghorn said that with self-belief this Town side has plenty available to climb the table.
“We created some good opportunities, the link up play was good.
“We’ve got some bodies in across January and the work we put in on the training pitch showed, with patterns of play coming out.
“It’s just about getting a little bit of self-belief, I know we’re down near the bottom of the table but the opportunities are there and the games are there to come and we’ve got a real chance to get a run together and climb up this table.
“We’ve got a good mix of youth and experience in this team, we’ve been there and done it, and hopefully the bits added into the squad in January so we can gel and get us to where we need to be in the table.”
