Since recently returning from a lengthy injury, Ben Midgley started his first game this afternoon and played 45 minutes in the 0-2 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Central League.

Midgley played the first 45 minutes of this afternoon’s B Team win over Bolton Wanderers at the Eddie Davies Training Ground, whilst wearing the captain’s armband for the first time since his return.

Discussing his return and the game, Midgley said:

“I have been out for a while and had a few injuries this season, so it’s good to be back out there with the boys. It’s hard when you’re in the gym everyday and you can’t go out on the grass or join the boys going out to training, you’re just kind of stuck there.

“It was a good game, we built on our last win against and pushed to secure the three points.

“I got 45 minutes on Friday against Sheffield United and then another 45 minutes today, so I’m just building the minutes at the moment, but it felt good.”

This afternoon’s captain went on to talk about the struggle he faced being out for so long with his injury.

“It’s been difficult not being able to play, the thing with having an injury is that it’s another setback.

“Obviously, you have to be mentally switched on and it’s been really difficult to stay positive, but these things happen in life - I had to just take the opportunity I had to work in the gym.

“I think one of the targets for me still is to get stronger and all of that time in the gym has helped. It was a major setback but at the same time it was another opportunity to get working in the gym.”

Finally, Midgley spoke about his aims for the remaining months of the season.

“My aim is to just get minutes in, I’ve had two good 45 minutes in two games, so to get the minutes in between now and the end of the season and just keep working.

“I want to help myself and help the lads, being captain is about helping the other players as much as you can and leading.”

Welcome back, Midge!
