Huddersfield Town forward Charles Ondo to gain senior experience

- Charles Ondo joins Waterford FC on loan
- Striker moves to Ireland until the end of the 2022/23 season
- Comments from Loan Manager David Fox

We can confirm that Charles Ondo has joined Waterford FC on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Having joined the club in 2020, and progressed through the academy, Charles made his first team debut in the Sky Bet Championship from the bench against Hull City in October 2022.

The versatile Spanish-born player has made two first team appearances, whilst also playing regularly for the B team.

Waterford currently compete in in the League of Ireland First Division after being relegated from the League of Ireland Premier Division last season.

Waterford’s 2023 season kicks off on Friday 17 February away to Wexford.

Charles will return to Huddersfield Town on 30 June 2023.

Loan Manager David Fox commented:

“After a first taste of senior football with us this season, this loan will give Charles a real chance to develop and progress - both as a footballer and as a person.

“Charles has shown that he can play at a good level, but this move will give him a few challenges to overcome. Not only will he have to deal with a new league and new style of football, but there’s also the challenge of integrating into a new country and environment.

“We’ll keep in close contact with him. He has everything he needs to be a big success at Waterford, and we hope to see him achieve it on the pitch.”

In other news on Academy loans, both Shane Maroodza and David Adewoju have returned from their spells with Bradford (Park Avenue). Shane has made 10 starts and one substitute appearance for Mark Bower’s side over two spells, whilst David made three starts and two substitute appearances in his month there.
