Alongside Phillips, Derby County’s Conor Hourihane has been nominated after scoring three goals in three games to help see the Rams move into the top four in January.

Also playing a leading role in their side’s fortunes was Dion Charles, who contributed three goals and an assist as Bolton enjoyed four wins in January, and Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass, who netted three goals and an assist as the Owls returned to second place. However, it was Cheltenham's Alfie May who led the way in goals in January, scoring in four straight games to kick off his 2023 in style.

Completing the nominations is Luke Leahy, as Shrewsbury finished the month with four straight wins as the centre-back scored in a 4-0 win away at Burton Albion, before bagging two goals and two assists in a 5-1 win over Cambridge United.
