Having conceded after 10 minutes to Jamal Lowe, the Terriers fought back to equalise in the first half and finished the game the better side after taking the initiative after the break.
An open, entertaining and free flowing game, Town used the ball well and attacked with purpose in both halves, buoyed by the return of Ollie Turton and the home debuts of Joe Hungbo, Martin Waghorn, Anthony Knockaert and Tomáš Vaclík in goal.
Having allowed QPR to take the lead following a mix up at the back and a header back across goal that left Vaclík exposed, Town equalised just before the break from close distance with Waghorn nodding home.
The chance was created after Hungbo won a free-kick and took it himself, forcing Dieng into a save that Turton crossed brilliantly for Waghorn to finish from.
Making various chances in the second half – the best of which fell to Jordan Rhodes after a great run from David Kasumu – it was Town who finished stronger, with substitute Brahima Diarra topping off another exciting cameo by flashing a brilliant strike just over in the dying moments.
