B TEAM: HARRATT AND BRIGHT SCORE IN BLACKPOOL WIN

15 February 2023

B Team beat Blackpool 3-1 at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex

- Huddersfield Town B 3-1 Blackpool
- Harratt brace and Bright goal in first half
- Tyreece Simpson assisted all three goals

Huddersfield Town’s B Team were victorious in their home win on Wednesday afternoon as they beat Blackpool in the Central League at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

A strong side took to the pitch today, following their Premier League Cup exit and Central league defeat last week, which resulted in them bouncing back against Blackpool this afternoon.

An end-to-end fixture and an entertaining 90 minutes saw Kian Harratt net a brace and Myles Bright get his name on the scoresheet within the first half, with all three goals assisted by Tyreece Simpson.

In the opening five minutes, Bright had the first chance after Luke Daley was fouled by Bobby Bjork in the attacking half. The free kick was passed back in order to start again, so Rarmani Edmonds-Green got the ball forwards for it to eventually land with Bright, but his shot was mis-hit and it went over the bar for a Blackpool goal kick.

Harratt scored his first goal in the 26th minute after Simpson played the ball over the top of the defence for the striker to run onto, he slotted it past the ‘keeper with his right foot and put the Terriers ahead.

Shortly after, Harratt fancied his chances again and shot from outside the box, but this effort was saved comfortably by Archie Cunningham.

The final five minutes of the first half saw two goals from Town as Bright scored in the 42nd minute and Harratt scored his brace in the 45th.

In the build up to Bright’s goal, Simpson intercepted a bad pass in the attacking area and turned inside before he cut back and passed the ball to Bright, he then fired it into the back of the net on his first touch of the ball.

Harratt’s goal was well worked; Daley found Simpson on the outside of the box, he sent a great cross towards the near post and Harratt connected his head to the ball and flicked it past Cunningham into the bottom far corner to give the Terriers a 3-0 advantage going into the second half.

Even though our visitors got a goal back in the opening minutes of the second half through substitute Brad Holmes, Jordan Smith made two fantastic saves, one from a low header and the second as he dove to make the save and pushed the ball away.

Fancying his chances again from range, Harratt shot from just outside the box in the 77th minute, but this curled just high and over the bar.

In the final moments of the game, the striker had one more chance left. Second half substitute Donay O’Brien-Brady shot from a narrow angle, which was pushed around the post by Cunningham and went out for a corner. Tom Iorpenda stepped up to take the set piece and the ball eventually landed at the feet of Harratt, he fired his shot towards goal but it took a deflection and went out for a second corner, which was defended well and cleared so that the game would finish 3-1 to the Terriers.

A second game was held this afternoon behind-closed-doors as our Under-19s hosted Kinetic Foundation at 4pm. The game consisted of three 30-minute sessions and saw our youngsters win 4-1 after they conceded first, with goals from Hazeem Bakre, Dylan Helliwell (penalty), Hakeem Sandah and Joseph Johnson.
