Town defender Michał Helik visited Moldgreen Community Primary School this month as part of the Huddersfield Town Foundation’s Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Helik made the trip to Moldgreen on Monday 4 December to meet and engage with students in an early morning assembly.

The ‘What Makes a Footballer?’ assembly, delivered by the Club’s Official Charity, aims to teach students all the characteristics of being a professional football player and how they can adapt these aspects to their personal development as they grow up. These areas covered teamwork, confidence, healthy eating, and being active.

Helik then went on to answer questions from the young people before he met a group of Polish students, communicating in his native tongue with them and becoming a real role model for these children.

Moldgreen’s Headteacher Helen Pearson commented on a brilliant morning:

“The assembly supported one of the key values of the school: resilience, and the children really understand the concept when it is talked about in a topic they know and like; football is a hobby for many of our pupils.

“Having Michał visit inspires the children. He answered questions about confidence, and how he felt in certain situations and the pupils were keen to listen. We also have a few Polish children who learned that he had represented Poland and that further inspired them.

“Our school values are Respect, Responsible and Resilience so any visitors who reinforce them through their work are so valuable.

“Thank you to Nemo and Christina for delivering the assembly, as their enthusiasm and passion are shown in all the work they do. We love working with the Huddersfield Town Foundation and the children gain so much with the partnership work.”

Premier League Primary Stars uses the power of the Huddersfield Town brand to engage pupils and teachers across all subject areas. The programme is available to Primary Schools across Kirklees, Wakefield and Calderdale, inspiring boys and girls aged five to 11 in the classroom, the playground, and on the sports field to help their learning in English, Maths, PE and PSHE.
