CLUB INVITE FAIRFIELD AND HOLLYBANK SCHOOLS FOR SPECIAL ACCESSIBLE TOUR!

6 December 2023

Tour organised to celebrated International Day of People with Disabilities

- Huddersfield Town work with Fairfield and Hollybank School
- Celebration of International Day of People with Disabilities
- Special tour also included workshop Terriers Together Inclusion Room

Pupils from Fairfield School were granted an access all areas pass to the John Smith’s Stadium last week as part of our celebrations of the International Day of People with Disabilities.

Falling on Sunday 3 December this year, last week the Club worked alongside our Town Foundation to invite students from Fairfield School and Hollybank School to experience the areas of the John Smith’s Stadium they wouldn’t otherwise get to see, giving the children an amazing experience behind-the-scenes at our home led by Club Ambassador Andy Booth.

Specially extended to include our Terriers Together Inclusion Room - sponsored by Thornhill Dental - the students in question were able to take advantage of the equipment within the space as part of a sensory workshop led by artists Salma Zaman and Nisha Lall, with the session includign interactive storytelling and movement to music with the sensory resources.

Rounded off with an improntu Christmas disco in our Revell Ward Suite - inlcluding some amazing moves from Boothy! - the visit underlines our commitment to our Terriers Together mentality and desire to make our home as accessible to supporters of all backgrounds and abilities as possible, hopefully giving the children involved the confidence to feel like attending football is for them too.

Lydia Wood, Higher-Level Teaching Assistant at Hollybank School commented:

“The inclusive and accessible nature of our personalised Huddersfield Town stadium tour meant that the children were able to visit the football pitch, and experience going through the tunnel where the players walk out of on game days, which they really enjoyed!

"We also enjoyed a sensory story in the inclusion room, which was a great inclusive space with bean bags which allowed the children to take some time out of their wheelchairs.

"Overall, we felt that the staff at Town were brilliant at accommodating our school pupils, who have very complex needs, and nothing was too much trouble. This was a great opportunity and trip out for our pupils.”

Fairfield School sent the following feedback:

"Our pupils enjoyed a sensory story session in the fabulous inclusion room, had a personalised accessible tour of the stadium and even got to dance with Andy Booth!

"Thank you so much to everyone who organised this extra special day - we all had a blast!!!"

We would like to place on record our thanks to both schools involved, the amazing students who joined us and Salma and Nisha for their wonderful workshop in our Terriers Together Inclusion Room.
