Standing in for an otherwise engaged Neil Warnock, our Assistant Manager Ronnie Jepson spoke to the media ahead of our Carabao Cup First Round tie with Middlesbrough.

Providing insight into the fitness and availability of the squad ahead of our Carabao Cup campaign beginning on Tuesday 8 August 2023, Jepson was also asked about his feelings on returning to the Club and the opportunities for players on the fringes on the First Team to impress against Middlesbrough.

Speaking at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, Jepson said:

“Matty Pearson is okay after Saturday. He’s a little bit sore and might take a couple of days, but we’ll get him there.

“Tom Lees is getting there too.

“The Manager wants to give a couple of other players a chance on Tuesday.

“Every team you come up against wants to win, just like we do.

“On Saturday, at 1-1, I would have been disappointed to come away with only a point. In the end, we got nothing. That’s football when you make mistakes.

“Tt’s a good football club - we want to give our best for the Club, and the fans understand that. I’m so happy to be here.

“Everyone has to keep working at it. We’ve got great fixtures coming up. There are no ‘gimmies’ in the Championship.

“The John Smith’s Stadium was rocking last season; it was incredible.

“We’ll need them to show patience at times, but it’s down to us as staff and players to get them going again.

“We’re really proud to represent these fans.

“we’ve got some young players here who have been with us all pre-season, but I only give credit when they’ve done it in this big, nasty division called the Championship!

“You can’t replicate what happens in a game in training. We set them up for it; that’s our job.

“Middlesbrough is a great test - but we’ll be a tough opponent for them too.

“It’s a good one for the fans to see a few of the other players.”
