Ahead of our first Sky Bet Championship fixture of the 2023/24 season, Manager Neil Warnock spoke with the press to preview with Plymouth Argyle match and share his feelings ahead of the campaign.

Summing up how his pre-season has gone, giving his thoughts on his Town squad, the fitness of his players and the opposition in Plymouth Argyle, the gaffer covered all bases in his first press conference of the season.

Speaking to the press, Warnock said:

“I’m excited - I always am at the start of the season!

“I’ve got a good group of lads here, and I really enjoyed the end of last season.

“You can see the bookies don’t think we have much chance, but the fans are right with us.

"We'll do the best we can, we're not thinking negatively - I'm fully concentrating on this season and this season alone, not looking beyond that.

"I just want to do my best for Huddersfield Town and for the fans, and we'll see where the season takes us.

"It's up to the young lads to take the opportunity that they've got because they've been ever so good in pre-season, and I'm confident in them.

"We have a very good 11 that can play against anybody, and I'm quite optimistic against anybody with those players.

"I've been reminded that the last time I went to Plymouth with Huddersfield I dropped Ronnie Jepson for Andy Booth, and Boothy scored a hattrick, so I hope I can repeat that.

"Jeppo doesn't let me forget dropping him, though!

"Nobody is going to shirk anything, there's going to be no wasters, not while I'm here anyway!

"I like what I've seen with Sorba and he's done as I've asked of him, I've rated him for a while and I'm hoping we can get something from him. He's contributed enormously this pre-season.

"A couple of the lads, I don't think they're far away. David isn't too bad, but Leesy and Jonathan Hogg will be back on the grass soon.

"Tom and Hoggy are big in what we do, they're important around the place. I'm really pleased with the senior lads if I'm honest.

"Helik has improved while we've been here, you can't tell me there's a better centre-half in this league.

"We've had to have one or two words, but he's always listened and responded and that's to his credit.

"Edwards has fit straight in, and Maxwell would get in most Championship sides I think.

"They're just like us, and that's what we want with us.

"I'm aware of social media and what they'll be saying and panicking about signings, but I won't be reading that this season.

"I also know most of our fans who love the Club don't do social media, so I'm managing as much for them as I am anyone else.

"It'll be a good atmosphere on Saturday, it's so good to see Plymouth back up at this level.

"I do hope to see them do well, just after Saturday of course!

"I always think when you've got injuries, it gives somebody an opportunity.

"For me this pre-season Ben Jackson has surprised me the most, in the training and in matches, he's really stood out to me. He's a fantastic boy as well.

"Hudlin has been a big surprise too, and Kian has stepped up and looks like scoring every time he plays too.

"Wardy and Josh Koroma know my expectations, Sorba I want to see more involved in the box and Jack Rudoni is more than capable of scoring 10 himself too."
