The Terriers continue their start to the 2023/24 campaign on Saturday 19 August, when they travel to the Riverside Stadium to take on Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship.

Following our narrow 0-1 loss against Leicester City in our first home game of the season, Town will be looking to secure their first win of 2023/24 campaign when they travel to the Riverside to take on Middlesbrough.

This will be our second meeting with Middlesbrough in just under two weeks, since we welcomed them to the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday 8 August in the Carabao Cup – which saw our visitors porgress to the next round despite goals from Kian Harratt and Kyle Hudlin.

Middlesbrough finished fourth in the Sky Bet Championship last season and just missed out on reaching the Play-Off Final due to a 1-0 aggregate semi-final loss against Coventry City, as they finished on 75 points.

Boro are also yet to win a league game this season, after losing to both Millwall and Coventry City in the opening Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

In October 2022, Michael Carrick was appointed Head Coach of Middlesbrough who were sitting in 21st position with 17 points from 16 games – just one point above relegation zone. Carrick took them from facing a relegation battle to fighting for their place in the Premier League.

Dan Barlaser

Barlaser joined Boro in January 2023 from Rotherham United, where he initially joined on loan from Newcastle United but joined permanently in 2020. Going through the ranks with the Magpies, Barlaser signed his professional contract in 2015 – he then had loan spells with Crewe Alexander, Accrington Stanley and finally Rotherham United. Including his loan season and his three-year stint with Rotherham United, the 26-year-old made over 130 appearances and scored 16 goals. So far this season, Barlaser has appeared in both league games and the Carabao Cup game against Town, where he assisted two out of the three goals.

Riley McGree

Australia international Riley McGree played youth football for Gawler Eagles, FFSA NTC and Adelaide United before he started his professional career with Adelaide United in 2016. His first move to English football came in 2020 when he was sent on loan to Birmingham City from Charlotte FC and this loan lasted for a season and a half before he transferred to Middlesbrough in January 2022. Since then, he has made over 50 appearances for Boro, including featuring in all three games played so far this season where he scored against Town in the Carabao Cup.

Morgan Rogers

Rogers progressed through the youth ranks with West Brom before joining Manchester City on pro terms in August 2019 after impressing whilst playing against them in the FA Youth Cup. From then, the 21-year-old was sent on multiple loan spells, which included Lincoln City, AFC Bournemouth and Blackpool – he has also made his way through the ranks of England’s international age groups, from Under 15s to Under 20s. A new signing for Middlesbrough this summer, Rogers joined in July and has played in both league games and the Carabao Cup game against Town.

Neil Warnock will provide the latest update in his team news in his upcoming press conference on Thursday 17 August 2023.

The Terriers will be wearing their blue and white stripes at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday 19 August in order to avoid a colourblind clash with Middlesbrough’s home kit.
