Ahead of our Sky Bet Championship fixture against Sunderland on Tuesday 18 April, Manager Neil Warnock updated the press before our trip to the Stadium of Light.

Discussing the latest team news, our recent result against Swansea City and the loyalty of the fans, Warnock said:

“The lads did ever so well, it was a long journey back especially after the result but they’re in great spirits. All we missed was a bit of luck at the weekend, which Swansea got.

“I was really pleased with Diarra and Headley during Saturday’s game; they worked hard, and their attitude was good after they hadn’t played in such a long time.

“I have to try and get the lads in the best frame of mind as possible and play with some freedom – they all trained well this morning.

“Players always perform better if they know what they’re doing and their quality can then show, but sometimes you can play off the cuff, and I’m not against that either.

“I’ve been so pleased with our fans; they’ve been excellent since I came in and they’ve travelled everywhere with us. I haven’t heard a cross word said and hopefully we can repay them.”

Looking ahead to our next Sky Bet Championship opponents, Sunderland, Our Manager said:

“Sunderland beat Birmingham City at the weekend and will expect to beat us – I think Tony Mowbray has done a fabulous job up there.

“It’s so tight at the top end that anyone has a chance of the Play-Offs, but we’ve got to try and come away with something for ourselves.

“It’s another difficult game for us on the back of an unlucky defeat, but we’ve got to try and give Sunderland problems – it would be nice to think that we could come up with one or two answers ourselves.

“Nothing is easy, that’s life. It’s another challenge to get the points we need.”
