Defeat in the EFL Youth Alliance League for Young Terriers

- Huddersfield Town Under-19s defeated by Lincoln City
- George Danaher’s side were ahead at the break
- Dylan Helliwell scores, alongside own goal

Town’s Under-19s EFL Youth Alliance League campaign continued with an away defeat to Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon.

Although Town’s Under-19 showed a strong performance, three goals in 15 second-half minutes for the Imps turned the game around and made it impossible for George Danaher’s side to get back in despite their efforts.

The Young Terriers started the game positively and the better of the two sides as they kept possession and created majority of the chances as pushed to go ahead early in the game.

The first chance for Town came through a long cross sent by Hakeem Sandah to find Ajay Weston in the box but went to far and was just missed as it went out for a goal kick.

Hazeem Bakre then followed this by trying to send a through ball to Tyree Sanusi but the Lincoln City ‘keeper comes forward to pick the ball up and keep Town out of the net.

Lincoln City fancied their chances at taking the lead as they shot from outside the box, but this went wide and out for a goal kick.

Shortly after their chance, Lincoln City are awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, and they went directly for goal, but Michael Acquah stood strong in the centre of the nets to save this set piece.

Lincoln City scored their first goal of the game in the 25th minute after they were awarded a penalty following miscommunication in the box. The penalty was initially saved onto the post by Acquah, but the rebound was scored by Julian Donnery and Lincoln took the lead.

The Imps held onto possession for a little while after scoring the goal until the Young Terriers equalised and got themselves back in the game following a corner from Michael Stone which deflected off of a Lincoln player and into the back of the home goal.

Quickly after this goal, Town took the lead and scored their second goal just before the break as Dylan Helliwell hit the ball just inside the box on a half volley into the back of the net.

The second half started with the same energy as the first, with both sides pressing to score another goal as well as possession being held, this meant that the ball was held in the middle of the pitch and not many chances were created.

Two chances threatened the Town net in short succession from Lincoln City as they looked to level the scoreline – these, however, did not amount to anything.

The Imps equalised in the 61st minute as Tayo Alexander-Tucker skilfully carried the ball through the Town defence before hitting the ball into the top right corner.

Lincoln City once again took the lead three minutes later from a direct free kick just outside the box that went straight in the bottom left corner.

The substitute ‘keeper for Lincoln then pulled off a brilliant save to keep Sanusi’s shot from outside the box out of the net.

The last action of the game happened through Donnery scoring his second goal of the game after he struck the ball into the into the far-right corner.

Despite their best efforts in the first and second half, George Danaher’s Under-19 side couldn’t get back into the game.
