REPORT: BARNSLEY 1-2 TOWN B

14 September 2022

Winning run continues for Huddersfield Town B

- Huddersfield Town B win at Barnsley
- Connor Mahoney and Ben Jackson on the scoresheet
- Young Terriers defend well to secure all three points

Our Town B Team continued their winning run on Tuesday afternoon, securing a 2-1 victory at Barnsley in a very competitive game.

Having defended really well throughout, Jon Worthington’s side secured the win through goals from Connor Mahoney and Ben Jackson, despite Barnsley equalising in the second half.

Town opened up the game early on after Mahoney scored straight from the corner flag in the fifth minute – the third time he has done this for the B Team so far this season!

While Barnsley tried to get back into the game straight away, Town’s back line stood strong and blocked an attempt from close range following a corner kick.

Charles Ondo had a shot on target in an effort to put the Young Terriers two in front from outside the box in the 28th minute, but it was palmed away by the Reds’ goalkeeper.

Both sides finished the first half still bursting with energy as Barnsley pushed for an equaliser and Town looked to double their lead.

Town came out in the second half and played with the same effort, and within the first five minutes Mahoney shot from the centre of the box and sent the Barnsley ‘keeper reaching at full stretch to make the save, pushing the ball out for a Town corner which amounted to nothing.

Barnsley got a goal back in the 64th minute after a strike in open play found the back of the net in the bottom right corner.

However, that score line didn’t last long for Barnsley as skipper Ben Jackson put the Terriers back in front in spectacular fashion – striking the ball perfectly from outside the box into the top right hand corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever.

Our Young Terriers defended brilliantly to keep the score in Town’s favour in the final exchanges, with both sides continuing to press forward until the final whistle.
