Huddersfield Town continue their Sky Bet Championship season on Saturday 17 September 2022 when they welcome Cardiff City to the John Smith’s Stadium; 3pm kick-off.

Town come into this game following a 2-1 loss at home to Wigan Athletic.

Cardiff City come into this game following a 3-2 victory away at Middlesbrough during the week, scoring their three goals within the first half.

THE OPPOSITION

This is Cardiff City’s third consecutive season in the Sky Bet Championship as they were relegated from the Premier League in the 20218/19 season - the same season as Town – and they will be looking to push on from their 18th place finish last season.

Steve Morison was appointed as caretaker manager following Mick McCarthy's departure in October 2021, with his first win in charge coming against Huddersfield in November 2021.

Although Morison was initially contracted until the end of the 2021/22 season, positive results saw him sign a contract extension running until the end of the 2022/23 season.

ONES TO WATCH

Perry Ng

The right back signed for the Bluebirds in January 2021 from Crewe Alexandra on a three-and-a-half-year deal. From 2004, Perry spent 10 years rising through the Crewe Alexandra academy before signing his first professional contract. The 26-year-old was named Alexandra’s captain in 2019 and was included in the PFA League Two Team of the Year for 2019/20. Perry has appeared in eight games so far this season, scoring Cardiff’s third goal in their 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough during the week.

Romaine Sawyers

A new signing for the Bluebirds this season, Sawyers joined on a two-year deal from West Bromwich Albion after his second spell at the Hawthorns ended in the summer. The midfielder went through the ranks with the Baggies and signed professionally for them but spent initial stints on loan with Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town, and Walsall. From that loan spell with Walsall, they signed him permanently in 2013 and he made over 160 appearances and scored 16 goals during that time before moving on to Brentford and then returning to West Brom. The 30-year-old has appeared in every league game since joining Cardiff and has scored two goals from outside the box.

Sheyi Ojo

Having previously spent a season on loan with the Bluebirds, Ojo returned on a permanent contract in the summer of 2022 before the start of this season from Liverpool. The attacker broke through the youth ranks at Liverpool and after being named in the First Team squad on several occasions, he went on multiple loan spells in order to gain senior football experience. His loan clubs included Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Reims, Reims II, Rangers, Cardiff City and Millwall – his loan season with Cardiff City saw him make over 40 appearances, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
