Luke Mbete arrives on loan at Huddersfield Town on the back of a season that saw him make his Champions League debut for Manchester City.

Born on 18 September 2003 in Westminster, Mbete started his career in Brentford’s Academy before he joined Manchester City’s Academy in 2016 as an Under-12.

The six-foot-one defender played in Manchester City’s Under-18 side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2020 when they beat Chelsea’s Under-18 side 3-2 in the final.

At 17-years-old, the defender started three Papa John’s trophy games for City in late 2020 and was later named on the bench for Pep Guardiola’s side for the first time in early 2021 for Premier League games against Chelsea and Brighton, as well as an Emirates FA Cup game and the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The 18-year-old was named on the bench 14 times for City last season and while he didn’t come on for any of the games Mbete started in the 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers at the Etihad, playing the full 90 minutes and getting an assist.

Last season also saw Mbete make his debut in the Emirates FA Cup as a sub in January 2022 with a win at Swindon Town. His Champions League debut was also made last season when he played six minutes of the home game against Sporting CP in March 2022.

Luke signed a new contract with Manchester City in June that ties him in with the Club until the summer of 2027.

Before joining the Terriers, Mbete was on the bench twice for City’s first four Premier League games, as well as for the Community Shield against Liverpool.

The left-sided centre back was called up to the England Under-19 team in 2021.
