- Comments from Loan Manager David Fox

Luke Daley has today signed for Gateshead on loan, joining the Vanarama National League side for an initial 28 days.

Having initially joined the Club from the Port Vale academy as a winger, 19-year-old has settled as a left back in his time with the Young Terriers, with his pace and comfort on the ball a real asset going forward.

A hard working, industrious player, Daley has risen through the Town Academy to B Team level, with this opportunity to experience senior first team football with Gateshead the next step in his development.

Player-managed by former Newcastle United central defender Mike Williamson, the Gateshead International Stadium based outfit currently sit in 21st place in the Vanarama National League having collected six points from their opening eight fixtures of the season.

Loan Manager David Fox commented:

“This is a really important opportunity for Luke to experience senior first team football at a really competitive level, with Gateshead a very well supported and ambitious Club within their division.

“Having got to know the club better last season with B Team goalkeeper Jacob Chapman also spending time there on loan, we know it’s an environment that will push our players to learn and get the most from their time in the north east.

“Luke has developed really well within our Academy and B Team programmes, but the chance to learn about the physical demands of senior football, play in a competitive environment and have the pressure of needing results at a well supported club can’t be replicated, so this experience will be invaluable.

“Gateshead were keen to bring him in, and that’s always a good sign. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Luke as we do with all of our loanees, and we’re sure he’ll be all the better for this experience.”
