Danny Schofield said that Wigan Athletic will be a ‘challenging game’ when he spoke to the press on Monday morning.

Speaking to the media in his press conference, Danny started by paying his respects to Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II, after she passed away Thursday 8 September 2022.

“She was a figurehead for the country.

“She was somebody everybody looked up to and the way she carried herself in such a high profile role was something everyone should be proud of.”

Schofield spoke about the fitness of his squad after the Blackpool game with the weekend’s game being postponed.

“We don’t have any fresh concerns, obviously we have Matty Pearson out long term – but other than that we’re okay.

“David Kasumu is close, and he’ll give the squad a real boost.

“Luke Mbete has also been given the all-clear for contact this week after he arrived from Manchester City with concussion after playing Barcelona in a friendly.”

Our Head Coach reflected on the Blackpool game and the goal that was disallowed and how the squad is moving on.

“We were obviously disappointed with the decision to not award the goal, but we’re looking to move on against Wigan, the result against Blackpool stood and is in the past.

“I try to be a positive person, but we need to channel that in the right direction to get the results we want.”

Danny then looked forward to tomorrow evening’s game against Wigan Athletic with international break coming up soon.

“We’ve got two games until the international break, so we’re looking to get two really good results – our full focus is on Wigan first.

“Leam Richardson has got a really good squad together there, so it’s going to be a challenging game, but we’re preparing to win.”
