B Team midfielder Connor Shanks was pleased with the team’s performance despite the narrow loss against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday afternoon.

Shanks started the game on Tuesday afternoon after recently coming back from an injury, having been on the bench when the B Team played Barnsley last week.

The 20-year-old spoke about how the squad played against Crewe Alexandra, the positives they can take moving forwards, and what the squad need to take into training to improve on.

“I think we played well - between both boxes we are a very good team.

“It’s about finishing off the chances that we get now as well as taking more chances to begin with.

“We need to work on defending the box well in order to keep clean sheets and score more goals at the other end, this is what we’re working on at the minute.

“There is obviously a lot more we can improve between the two boxes, but the main focus is defending the box and scoring goals when we get chance.”

Shanks went on to discuss how these games help shape the team for competitions and Cup fixtures, making sure to address the importance of every game they play.

“I think all friendlies are good, we don’t really treat them as friendlies because we want to win every game that we play.

“In terms of making relationships for the ‘bigger games’, like the Premier League Cup, it’s always good to build the relationships on the pitch so you know how your teammates play and what their strengths are.”

The midfielder the took the time to highlight the aims for the season and the importance of the Premier League Cup for the squad.

“As a group, the Premier League Cup is massive for us.

“We want to get further than we did last year – we had a really good run last year and were really disappointed at how we bowed out but the focus for the season will be on the Premier League Cup.”
