TOWN WOMEN PROGRESS IN COUNTY CUP

17 October 2022

Huddersfield Town Women score 17 away from home

- Penistone Church 0-17 Huddersfield Town Women
- Town Women progress in the County Cup
- Glen Preston’s side will be looking to build on this momentum in the League

Town overcome resilient Penistone to advance in the County Cup.

Following last seasons County Cup success Town joined the competition in the first round this season as they began their defence of the regions biggest prize.

Due to being entered into the Cup at such an early stage, Town visited Penistone Church on Sunday who find themselves a number of divisions lower down the pyramid.

It was a comfortable afternoon for Town who were never really challenged, with goal machine Laura Elford scoring a hat trick in the first half.

In a game where Town never really got out of second gear it gave manager Glen Preston the opportunity to experiment with his squad as a number of fringe players were given the opportunity to get some minutes.

Whilst the score line says different, Penistone defended resiliently in a game where they were always going to struggle, managing to keep Lauren Joyce quiet in the second half despite a flurry of chances.

As well as the First Team securing victory and continuing in the competition our development side also secured victory and a place in the next round as they picked up their first victory of the season with a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Mia Harris and a hat trick from Abby Hodkin.
