Town Women defeated away from home

- AFC Fylde 2-0 Huddersfield Town Women
- Town Women fourth in the Women’s National League North
- Glen Preston’s side will be looking to bounce back against Penistone Church

Huddersfield Town were defeated in their trip to AFC Fylde on Saturday 8 October despite their recent good form.

The game was slow to get going as each side struggled to keep the ball in the windy conditions.

It sprung into life after 31 minutes as a long ball from Beth Ibbotson fell to the path of Ria Montgomery, whose shot was saved well by the oncoming Fylde ‘keeper.

Just three minutes later Town found themselves in front of the goal and this time a long ball from Katie Anderson fell to the feet of the ever-present Laura Elford who’s volley went high and over the bar.

It was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play on the stroke of half-time, a cross into the Town box wasn’t dealt with and Fields managed to convert it home.

The second half followed the path of the first with both sides even, the first major chance for Town came after 60 minutes when a delightful ball in from Kate Mallin just evaded the path of Autumn Hounsley at the back post.

Just minutes later AFC Fylde doubled their lead Rowe drove forward before squaring the ball to Hughes at the back post who turned and slot it passed Joyce in the Town goal.

Town tried to get back into the game and after 87 minutes a corner from Mallin almost found its way in the net at the back post before the ball was cleared to the path of Montgomery whose long range strike was saved well by the keeper.

For Town it’s a break from league action as the County Cup begins next weekend as they make the trip to Penistone Church.
