LOAN UPDATE: FIVE YOUNG TERRIERS EXPERIENCING FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL

14 October 2022

Five further players across the Huddersfield Town Academy and B Team out on loan

- Young Terriers gaining valuable senior experience
- Players from both Under 19s and B Team out on loan
- Club currently have 21 players out on loan

Across the past week, five more of our Young Terriers have either gone out on loan to gain experience of first team football or had their existing loan extended.

From the B Team, midfielder Sonny Whittingham has joined Hyde United on a youth loan, following in the footsteps of goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi who excelled on the other side of the Pennines before joining Spennymoor Town earlier this month. Signing for an initial month, 18-year-old Whittingham will be able to test himself at a senior level and test himself away from the B Team.

In a double-deal, both Fope Deru and Archie Sheppard from our Under 19 age group have signed for AFC Bury on work experience. Attacking winger Fope, 18, and central defender Archie, 17, will experience matches in the North West Counties Football League and add to their experience within a senior environment.

Having been successful in their existing loan deals, both Luke Daley at Gateshead and Sam Taylor at Northallerton Town have had their arrangements extended by a further month. Including both First Team and Academy talent, the Club currently has 21 players out on loan across the divisions, speaking to the quality present within all of our sides.

Loan Manager David Fox commented:

“It’s great to see so many of our younger players heading out on loan and getting a proper taste of first team football within a senior environment – that isn’t the kind of experience that is replicable within an Academy, which is why we look to do these deals to maximise development.

“Sonny Whittingham joins Hyde United who we know very well after Gio’s spell there, and we know he’ll be well looked after while playing at a really high, competitive level. Fope and Archie are within our youngest age group, so as they push to try and crack the B Team, this is the right next step for their progression and going together will certainly help.

“It’s pleasing to see so many of our boys out doing so well at various levels of the game, and the fact that we’re having loans extended like Luke’s and Sam’s is a real badge of pride. The reputation of our Academy and the talent present at Huddersfield Town is constantly growing, and these deals further underline that fact.”
