Huddersfield Town Head Coach Mark Fotheringham discussed the fitness of his squad and our upcoming trip to Middlesbrough in his latest press conference.

Asked about any changes to player availability since the Preston North End defeat, Fotheringham said:

“It’s just the same injury news. Pat Jones has been out for a while, and I’ve only trained with Hoggy once. Medics have been working really hard. Jon Russell has been working really hard.

“Hoggy has a calf issue, he’s been helping me get to know the players and giving me pointers – which is what a captain does.

“Tino will be back soon after illness, it’s hard for me because I’ve not worked with these players before and it’s hard because these are starters. Hoggy is my captain and I’m looking forward to having him back, he works like me. We’re going to have a good training camp as well over the World Cup break.”

Opening up about the work being done at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, our Head Coach gave some detail on what the focus in training has been on.

“We’re working really hard with what we can improve and do differently. Working on the timing of the delivery and the run on the ball, that’s all the work we can do on the training ground. My staff are recovering the players really well with the volume of games.

“The opportunities in the box, you can tell we’re really dangerous, we just need to work on the final shot and the final pass. We want to start climbing the table.”

“I tell the players to not focus on the outside pressure and to focus on what we’re doing on the inside and in training.

“There’s no excuses here at the club, our players have a great environment to develop themselves and improve their game.

“We’re just a team trying to find consistency”

Finally, ending the press conference by previewing the game to come against Middlesbrough, Mark insisted that his focus was on his own side, whilst remaining complementary of our next opposition.

“Middlesbrough are a good side and they have a lot of quality, but as I say we just have to focus on ourselves. We need to do something fast to get off the bottom of the table.

“if we can get back to back wins then we’re in a promising position in the table. I am going to make sure we fight to get out of this position.

“From the Hull game, you go from hero to zero. I try to take the emotion out of it and focus on the facts of the game. I think we are capable to get ourselves out of the position we are in. I understand that the fans are disappointed with the results of the game, but we are going to fight our way out of where we are.

“When the injured guys come back and the players I haven’t worked with, it’s going to make the group a lot more competitive.

“I want my players to be aggressive on and off the ball, to show the fans how much they want it.

“We did so many good things against Preston as well, it was mainly just the final pass – which is what we’re working on. The lads showed great courage and kept pushing and pushing. There is no lack of confidence.”
