Town Head Coach Mark Fotheringham was disappointed to taste defeat in his first game in charge, and said that the manner of goals conceded will need to be worked on.
Opening up about his thoughts on the game, Fotheringham didn’t shy away from pointing out Town’s flaws.
“It’s disappointing, I didn’t think we were at it in the first half, even though we had the better chances in the first ten or fifteen minutes.
“And then of course they go and score on a set play, so that’s my responsibility, I need to take care of that better with the coaching staff ahead of Tuesday.
“I just felt in the second half we controlled it, and then we made an individual error again with a bit of sloppy play, but that happens with young players, it comes with experience.”
Despite a better showing after the break, Mark admitted that Town should have been better and made more of the chances they created.
“It stings that they’re goals you could avoid, I felt like in our build up we could have been a lot more slicker and played sharper so that was frustrating.
“We’ve had six sessions in four days, so we’re going to get the work into them and you can see the guys are getting used to it as well.
“It’s going to take time.
“This isn’t an easy place to come, but I was coming here with a lot of hope today and the second half performance especially gave me a lot of hope.
“We should have done better when we were getting balls in from wide areas, we had really good movement in the box and I’m really happy when I’ve got offensive players on the pitch, so that’s why it looked good when we had Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes up there, two guys who know where the goal is.
“There’s definitely a lot of work to do and we’re not underestimating that.”
