Huddersfield Town Head Coach Mark Fotheringham discussed the depth of his squad and the characters he has in the team.

Asked about team news and the injury Ollie Turton sustained during our game against Millwall, Mark updated the press on Tuesday morning.

“It’s bad news regarding Ollie Turton unfortunately, it’s going to be a long-term ankle injury and it might require surgery to fix it - he’s a strong character and is going to be a massive loss.

“We’ll support him and we’re behind him, I’m sure he’ll be back in no time.

“He was quite shocked because he could put weight on the foot, we were shocked when he went down because he never goes down, he’s a real Terrier who goes for the duels.

“This presents a real opportunity now for other players to step up.”

Adding to this, Fotheringham praised members of his team, their development and their achievements.

“I’m very impressed with Ben Jackson, not just as a player but as a person – he has both feet on the ground but has an amazing work ethic and is a credit to his family.

“I’m pleased for Yuta with his call-up for Japan at the World Cup, we were laughing yesterday because he was trying to tell me he meant for his goal to happen, but I told him there was no chance – I’d never seen him try that in training before!

“Jack Rudoni is building well; he trains well every single day and just loves football.

“He’s a very balanced, young, intelligent man and we will work with him to get to his highest level possible – he has a big future.”

Our Head Coach spoke about the team’s current focus and the potential for everyone to play.

“The table is there for everyone to see, but we’ve set ourselves internal targets that we’re working towards.

“We’ve spoken about clean sheets and we’re getting those now, which is credit the lads defensively – we’re not getting distracted by the table though.

With the volume of games we’ve got, we’ve made it clear that this is an opportunity to play.”

Looking ahead to Sunderland, Mark discussed what he was expecting from the newly promoted side on Wednesday evening.

“Sunderland have got an exciting team and players who can hurt us on the night, but we concentrate on ourselves.

“Sunderland are a massive club with big tradition and Tony Mowbray is a great coach and a manager I really look up to.

“Our fans were incredible at home on Saturday against Millwall, it makes such a difference when they’re behind us and backing us.”
