Town made in six wins from seven - and four wins on the bounce! - as they secured a third place finish in the Sky Bet Championship by seeing off Bristol City 2-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Despite rotation, with six changes from our last outing away to Coventry City, the Terriers picked up where they left off by controlling the majority of the game in an extremely clinical and professional manner.
Making the most of an excellent first half performance and sustained attacking pressure, Town hit the lead through Harry Toffolo, who continued his remarkable run in front of goal by bagging his fifth goal in seven games!
Another special effort, the left-back played a smart one-two with Danny Ward on the edge of the area before flicking the ball between his own legs to burst past his marker to get into the area. Working it onto his left, he fired beyond the keeper to put Town ahead, with the John Smith’s Stadium atmosphere peaking as a result.
Before the half was out, Town made it two. A route that gave them much joy throughout the game, Duane Holmes worked the ball nicely out wide on the right, giving himself space to ping a low cross toward the centre of the Bristol City box.
Making a real effort to get on the end of it, Ward made just enough of a connection to bundle the ball over the line, with the referee in a great position to award it after it was cleared moments after crossing the line.
Having made some planned changes early in the second half, Town continued to control the contest and created chances for a third, but were unable to find the net again before the referee blew for time, and brought our regular season to an end.
