DEAN HOYLE: ONE FINAL PUSH ON SUNDAY!

27 May 2022

Dean reports from the ‘Road to Wembley’ ahead of the Final

I’m finishing this piece as I’m about to get back on the bike ahead of day two of the ‘Road to Wembley’ ride in what is clearly a massive week for the Club!

In truth, we’re repeating this three-day fundraising ride to settle my nerves as much as anything! However, it also gives us a great opportunity to create something special in the honour of Daz Hopson that I know will mean a lot to so many of you. Daz’s case really hit home to many of us – to see his incredible fight against a terrible disease – and a memorial in his honour will be very poignant.

Day one to Grantham went well, and today we head to Letchworth on another long leg. If you can donate to the ride, please do so HERE - and give whatever you can.

We should arrive at Wembley on Saturday, well ahead of our Play-Off Final against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Saturday is another big day for the town, of course, with our Stadium partners the Huddersfield Giants playing in the Challenge Cup Final in London. On behalf of everyone at the football club, I want to congratulate them and wish them the very best of luck.

Ticket sales have been really strong, which means we’ll be around the 35,000 fans that supported us on that memorable day in 2017. We all massively appreciate your support – we know times are still tough financially, and that the cost of going to London and supporting the lads is not insignificant. It will be great to see you all at the home of English football this weekend.

I’ve been asked by my team to ask you all to read the supporter info on our website, that should answer a good number of questions you may have about Sunday. It can be found HERE.

Whatever happens this weekend, I want to acknowledge the fantastic achievements of Leigh Bromby, Carlos Corberán, the entire backroom team and every single one of the players for what has been a fantastic season. They’ve given you a team to be proud of once again after a tough few years, which is what everyone wanted.

However, we’re clearly going to London to try and make the dream a reality once again! We know that the game against a good Forest side will be a great contest, but our lads should go full of confidence after the season they’ve had.

This is where you come in! Your support home and away has been exceptional, and you’ve really helped to lift the team in difficult moments. They will need you all again on Sunday! As is the case in every Sky Bet Championship game, there will be moments where we are under pressure – that is when the players need you more than ever, to give them the energy and encouragement they need.

I feel like we’ve seen the return of true #TerrierSpirit to the Club this season – it’s made me feel very proud. I sincerely hope that, combined with the skill of the players, will carry us over the line this weekend.

Thanks so much for your support. Enjoy Sunday - if that’s even possible!

Dean Hoyle
