Young Terriers perform well despite losing 1-0 away to Doncaster Rovers

- Huddersfield Town Academy Manager Emyr Humphreys comments

Despite falling to a one nil defeat away from home to Doncaster Rovers, it was a positive performance from Town’s Young Terriers in their latest outing.

With their current block of coaching focussed on sustaining attacks, keeping possession and learning to dominate matches, their performance reflected those intentions closely.

Holding the ball for long stretches, the coaches were pleased with how the side structured their attacks and looked to build going forward, with a real concentration on breaking down the oppositions low block and exploiting gaps when they presented themselves.

Creating a number of chances, the side weren’t able to convert any of those moments into goals, with the final ball or decision often letting down an otherwise well worked move forward, which gives the group something to work on as they continue to develop.

Conceding from a low cross and tap in at the far post in one of the game’s only clear-cut opportunities, the side did well to limit Doncaster’s attacks and keep their chances to counter-attacking to a minimum.

Discussing the game, Academy Manager Emyr Humphreys' said:

“It’s pleasing to see the group putting the work that they do at Canalside into practice in a match environment.

“The performance was encouraging, and showed that the team have understood the schemes and ideas that they’ve been working on, whilst still giving them areas to improve on.

“Being more intelligent on the ball, playing with more disguise, making better decisions in the final third and gaining that extra bit of quality that will convert chances into goals is the next step, which we’ll be looking to get closer to between now and the end of the season.”
