LEES: THE WHOLE TEAM TAKES CREDIT

Goal-scoring centre back reviews the Peterborough win

- Tom Lees reviews the 3-0 win over Peterborough United
- Centre back scores twice for the first time in his career
- Lees: “Everyone worked so hard”

Tom Lees credited the whole team for their effort and performance in tonight’s 3-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Peterborough United at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The victory secured a fourth straight league win for the first time this season, extending the team’s unbeaten run to 18 in all competitions in the process.

“It was a game that probably everybody expected us to win, and sometimes they can be difficult with that expectation,” Tom told HTTV after the game.

“They could make it difficult for us, but getting those early goals really helped us. You’ve seen if you don’t get those early goals, it can get a bit edgy, but I think everyone was fantastic tonight.”

Lees was back in the side having missed last weekend’s win at Birmingham City due to a head wound, but that didn’t hold him back tonight – he scored twice with his head from set pieces!

That’s the first time that Lees has scored twice in a single game in his impressive career, which spans over 500 appearances.

“Maybe I should wear this more often!” he joked of his head bandage! “I don’t think that’s ever happened before, but I’m just buzzing for the team, the Club, all the staff and the fans. I’m delighted.

“The main thing was just to win. We can sit back now and watch the other games over the weekend.

“The whole team takes credit. Everyone works so hard. I heard Matty Pearson say in the preview show about the (physical) stats that the lads in front of us put in and it’s down to that, and the way the staff drill us.

“Now we’ve got a game on Monday where there’s a big prize, if you can put it like that, waiting if we can win that game. I’m sure everybody will be looking forward to that.”

Tom finished off by discussing #TerrierSpirit – the link between club, players, and fans.

“It’s not just on match day – it’s throughout the week. It’s about the town, the supporters and everybody being as one. I know it’s easier when things are going well, you’re on a run like we are and you’re in this position, but I can speak for myself and say what a great, welcoming feeling it was when I joined.”
