Town were pegged back by two late goals at the Hawthorns after West Brom recovered to claim a point in the final minutes.

Having been excellent for the majority of the match, the game turned after West Brom were awarded a controversial penalty.

Stretching to control the ball on the edge of the box, Thomas was adjudged to have fouled a West Brom player stooping to head the same ball, despite no contract being made.

Karlan Grant converted from the spot with Lee Nicholls diving in the right direction, and minutes later a deep cross was nodded home from close range by substitute Andy Carroll.

A disappointing end to the game, Town had controlled until the spot kick. Ward scored once in each half, showcasing the predatory part of his game for both goals.

Chasing down Sam Johnstone for his first, the forward’s hard work paid off as he ricocheted the ball into the back of the next as the ‘keeper failed to clear his lines in time.

Scoring from a similar situation for his second, Ward followed up a fierce O’Brien drive that was fumbled by Johnstone, tucking home neatly on the rebound.
