7 June 2022

Club takes next step in ‘Terriers Together’ campaign becoming Menopause Friendly Employer

- Huddersfield Town named ‘Menopause Friendly Employer’
- First football club to be awarded accreditation in United Kingdom
- Latest Development in ongoing Terriers Together EDI strategy

We are proud to confirm that the Club has achieved ‘Menopause Friendly Employer’ status!

Becoming a Menopause Friendly Employer is a significant step in the Club’s continuing ‘Terriers Together’ work, through which we promote equality, celebrate diversity and aim to make our culture and environment as inclusive and welcoming of all as possible.

As a Menopause Friendly Employer, the Club has demonstrated a clear understanding of how menopause can affect employees at work, put resources and support in place to help, and shown ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of Town staff and supporters.

Huddersfield Town is the first football club in the UK to be awarded this accreditation and this is the latest development in our ongoing Terriers Together Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy.

We are also taking an active role in encouraging and helping other employers, including our valued partners and sponsors, on their journey to becoming Menopause Friendly.

Ann Hough, Operations Director and Board Lead for Equality said:

“We are working very hard to ensure that our football club is as inclusive and welcoming of everyone as it can possibly be.

“Our work on the menopause stems from acknowledging that women are under-represented in our environment, and we want to change that by ensuring women and people of all genders are fully supported with their individual needs.

“There are other exciting developments coming to fruition, including our Women’s Network and our inaugural Female Inclusion and Empowerment Conference in October 2022.

“We are very proud to be leading the way in breaking down taboos and encouraging conversations about the menopause and other subjects.

“We have made great strides in our inclusion journey over the past five years and that is testament to the hard work and dedication of many people.”

HR Manager Zoe Shackleton also commented:

“We are proud to be the first football club to become a fully accredited Menopause Friendly Employer.

“This award is indicative of the work we are doing to develop and improve female inclusion, as part of our long-term EDI Strategy, and to support our colleagues through a time in their life that can present a number of challenges.

“We recognise that menopause can be a taboo subject and we are working hard to change that in our environment, enabling staff to feel comfortable in asking for the help and support they may need, and for people of all genders to be empowered to provide that support.

“We would like to thank Deborah Garlick and the Menopause Friendly accreditation team at Henpicked for their support and encouragement throughout the application and assessment process.”
