Ahead of next month’s 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season opener at home to Burnley, we are looking back at some of Town’s most memorable opening day fixtures!

Town have enjoyed some brilliant wins to kick-off new campaigns both at the John Smith’s Stadium and on the road in recent years - and we'll be looking to add to them on Friday 29 July 2022 against Burnley as we get the new season going!

Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town – 12/08/2017

Town’s first ever Premier League game couldn’t have gone any better on the opening day of the 2016/17 Premier League season at Selhurst Park.

David Wagner’s side took the lead midway through the first half through a Joel Ward own goal. Steve Mounié then doubled the lead with his first goal for the Club on his competitive debut.

The travelling fans were then in dreamland in the South London sunshine as Mounié got his second of the game to stretch the lead to three and round off the perfect opening day to the Club’s first season in the top-flight since 1971/72.

Huddersfield Town 2-1 Brentford – 06/08/2016

Town had an opening day clash with Brentford in the 2016/17 promotion-winning season which got the campaign off to the perfect start.

After a goal-less first half, Town’s Elias Kachunga opened the scoring with a low header past the Bees' goalkeeper.

Brentford’s Nico Yannaris equalised with less than 15 minutes to play, but the level scores lasted for less than two minutes as Kasey Palmer rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home to give Town an opening day victory in-front of the overjoyed home fans.

Huddersfield Town 1-0 Yeovil Town – 11/08/2007

Town kicked-off the 2007/08 League 1 season with all three points after a home win against Yeovil Town.

In a closely fought encounter, former Town striker Luke Beckett scored the only goal of the game to help Andy Ritchie’s Terriers to their first win of the new campaign.

Huddersfield Town 2-0 Charlton Athletic – 17/08/1996

Town began their 1996/97 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on home soil.

Midfielder Darren Bullock and defender Andy Morrison found the net, either side of half-time, in-front of the 11,858 at the John Smith’s Stadium.
