Ahead of our Sky Bet Championship season kicking off against Burnley at 8pm on Friday 29 July, our Head Coach Danny Schofield has spoken to the press to give his thoughts on his first competitive game in charge.

Discussing the occasion, Danny admitted that it was a big occasion, but he was focussed on doing his job and setting up his side for the game.

"Whoever the game is against, the first game of the season is always the biggest game.

"Burnley have come down and have a high-profile manager, but we're focused on what we can do.

"On the pitch is what I can control - getting the team to perform in games.

"We want to epitomise the Terrier Spirit, be aggressive, be on the front foot."

Asked about his style of play, Schofield opened up about how he wants his side to play this season, and shared his happiness with how they’ve adapted to that so far.

"Whatever style of play you have there's fundamentals - you need to be competitive, be aggressive, and win your duels both individually and as a unit.

"We want to focus a lot on position play and trying to attack the box in numbers, but staying solid against counter-attacks.

"We've tried a few new things in pre-season, and we've got some good new players in the door who we're happy with.

"I'm very process driven, so I'm not focused on the end result, though hopefully that comes as part of the process."

Asked about his squad, transfers and fitness heading into the opening game, Danny said he was happy with the options he has to choose from, with just one injury concern at the moment.

"What's in the building is a competitive squad.

"You always want to strengthen and be more competitive, but we have the squad we have and we're just preparing for Burnley.

"We're pretty much a fully fit squad.

"Matty Pearson maybe has a slight injury, we're waiting to see on that one, but otherwise it's pretty much a full squad to select from."

Having played at Town for nine years, Schoey spoke to his familiarity with the Club and what’s going to be expected of his side, underlining their collective values ahead of the new season.

"Having been here as a player I know what the fans demand, and I'm a Yorkshireman, so I know what values we have as well.

"It's hard work, it's commitment.

"You need to have those qualities and build on them before anything else.

"Whatever challenges and obstacles come, you've just got to face it and climb over them together, and that's what we're going to try to do all season.

"The strength behind it all is the unity of the players."
