Assistant Coach Narcís Pèlach was happy with what he saw from the players in this afternoon’s pre-season opener against Morecambe at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

A Ben Jackson brace and Jordan Rhodes goal gave the Terriers the victory over their Sky Bet League One opposition, but more importantly the players involved all got 45 minutes under their belts.

Straight off the pitch, Narcis told HTTV that it was a very satisfactory afternoon.

“We are happy! It’s the first game of pre-season so it’s never easy when you are training and doing double sessions – the players are tired – but I think we played well, with a good attitude. Every player gave their best.

“We’re in the right direction. We are not starting from zero – the players know what we want in defence and attack. We will try to get better, but this was a good start.

“In terms of physicality and mentality, the team is in a good place. They’ve arrived (back) very well, to be honest.”

Many of the faces involved will be familiar to Town fans, but there were some B Team players involved – the likes of Jackson, Brahima Diarra and Etienne Camara among others. With the new signings and several others to bring back into the squad too, Narcis believes the future is looking positive.

“You always need new players with new ideas. The young lads are working very well – they are a big part of the Club and our project. We put a lot of trust in them, so they must show the performance on the pitch. If they show they are ready, we will have confidence in them.

“The new signings, obviously, are very good players and we have trust in them. They’re joining a fantastic squad from last season.”

It was the first game with Narcis and Head Coach Danny Schofield in permanent charge, but Narcis explained that it was ‘business as usual’ from all involved.

“This is the advantage we have – that Danny and I were coaches here last season, so the players know us very well and we are keeping the same ideas. Obviously last week was a little bit strange, but now we are on our way. We’re working and we know what we want.

“We have a fantastic dressing room with fantastic players, and I think we will be more than ready to compete against Burnley in two weeks.”
