Midfielder Ben Midgley is looking forward to competing against senior opposition once again when the B Team travel to Macclesfield FC on Thursday 21 July; 7pm kick-off.

Jon Worthington’s Young Terriers travel to the Leasing.com Stadium, playing the North West Counties Football League side in a 7pm kick-off.

19-year-old Midgley spoke about how he has found pre-season so far, having already featured in the second half of both First Team friendlies against Harrogate Town and Doncaster Rovers.

“Pre-season has been going well. The lads have come back and everyone’s in good shape, nobody’s behind.

“On a personal note, it’s been really good to get the fitness back up with playing loads of games again, it’s been enjoyable.”

Midgley has spent some time training with the First Team, taking the opportunity to gain experience from players who spent last season playing Sky Bet Championship football every week.

He continued: “Obviously it’s tough when you move up, but you’ve just got to show the level that you’re at and just show that you’re comfortable playing and training.

“It’s been good to learn from them and try putting those things into my game.

“It’s a great experience, some of them have played in the Premier League before and last season all of them played Championship week in week out, so it’s just a level of professionalism.

“Also, the way they train, everything day in day out is at the highest level that they can so I think that is something me and the B Team can take from them.”

Looking ahead to Thursday’s game against Macclesfield, the young midfielder is confident that they can compete against a more physical senior side.

“I expect Macclesfield to be tough. We’ve just played two League Two games and we fought well with them so I expect it to be a similar game to that.

“They’re going to be physical, but I think we compete really well against teams like that and we’ve just got to implement our playing style no matter what they do.

“I think set pieces for and against in that game are going to be key so we need to set up well and just play how we normally play and I think we’ll get the result we want.”
