Huddersfield Town B Team midfielder Michael Stone was ‘feeling good’ following his side’s victory against Macclesfield at the Leasing.com Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Young Terriers travelled to SK11 and played out a competitive game against a side that were fresh from winning promotion to the North West Counties Football League.

It proved to be an entertaining game across the full 90 minutes, with the second 45 proving to be particularly exciting. Town were put ahead by trialist Louis Lloyd just after the hour mark before Andrew Owens equalised for the hosts shortly after.

With the contest finely poised heading into the final tickings, second half substitute Stone lead an attack and manufactured himself a chance, following a passage of impressive interplay with Lloyd. He shifted onto his left foot and curled the ball into the far corner in sublime style.

This sensational strike was well deserved following his effort moments earlier, which struck the post.

Speaking to htafc.com post-match, Stone was quick to comment on how he was feeling.

“I feel good!

“It was a good game - I was especially proud to come on as a substitute and make an impact by scoring the goal that won the game.”

The 18-year-old went on to discuss the importance of playing against other clubs First Teams.

“I thought that it was a good performance, especially against a senior team. When playing against them, you have to think quicker and play quicker.

“They have played a lot more games than you so know all the tricks in book. They are also a lot more physical, so you have to keep up with that.”

Stone also elaborated on the work that he has been doing since the end of last season, to ensure that he can maximise his output this term.

“I have practised those shots a lot, especially in the off season. I like to practise with both feet, and I was glad that one could come off tonight.”

The Young Terriers are now halfway through their rigorous pre-season schedule, playing four of their eight games. Their results have been admirable, as they have won two, drawn one and lost just once.

They do not have long to wait for their next encounter as they are on the road once again on Monday 25 July 2022 as they travel to Northern Ireland. Our Young Terriers will face Loughgall FC at Lakeview Park in a 7.30pm kick-off as they look to continue their impressive run of form ahead of the new season.
